My
art
explores the intersection of modern forces and
primitive minds.
Sometimes it seems the canvas is charged by the
rubbing and working of
the surface, not unlike the transformation of
space that occurs when a
dog circles, paws, and prepares their sleeping
space even on a concrete
floor.
I work from my life experiences and draw on the
sensations around me.
Making the image becomes a conversation between
ideas, materials,
shapes and colors. The compositions contain bold
forms and linear
elements. They reflect contemporary concerns and
succeed when the
viewer connects both intellectually and
subconsciously. My goal is to
make meaningful art that has energy and
integrity.
My paintings evolve through a daily process.
Often the ideas are a
synthesis of the explorations that have taken
place in prior drawings,
paintings and color studies. I make room for
unexpected results and use
my intuition to look for meaning in the
developing composition.
With an open mind, I practice making art,
suspending the rules, excited
to free my imagination. The excitement of
following an idea keeps me at
it, pursuing the new.
